What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins usually seen in the legs and feet. They occur when the valves inside your veins stop working properly, causing blood to pool. This condition can lead to discomfort, aching, swelling, and sometimes skin changes or ulcers.

TREATMENTS WE OFFER

Varicose Veins Treatment Options

Laser therapy - Endovenous Laser therapy (EVLT & EVLA)

Laser Vein Treatment

A laser-based treatment that closes faulty veins from the inside. This is the most commonly performed treatment for varicose veins. Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA/EVLT) is a minimally invasive varicose vein laser treatment that uses laser energy to close damaged varicose veins from within. A thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein under ultrasound guidance, gently sealing it shut and redirecting blood to healthier veins. The procedure is done under local anesthesia, requires no stitches, and offers quick recovery with excellent long-term results.

At Clinic Seven, Kukatpally, Dr. Nagateja offers foam and liquid sclerotherapy to treat spider and small varicose veins. This 10-minute, no-anesthesia procedure helps veins fade naturally with minimal downtime. Safe, effective, and ideal for cosmetic vein treatment in Hyderabad.

Radiofrequency Ablation Therapy (RFA)

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA/EVRF)

A quick, minimally invasive treatment that uses heat to close unhealthy veins and relieve leg pain, heaviness, and swelling. At Clinic Seven, Kukatpally, Dr. Nagateja performs Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) to treat large varicose veins. A thin catheter delivers heat to seal the faulty vein, relieving leg pain, swelling, and heaviness. This minimally invasive procedure is done under local anesthesia with fast recovery and long-term results.

Conservative Vein Treatment

Conservative Vein Treatments

An effective, non-surgical approach that helps reduce vein symptoms through movement, compression, and daily habits. If you're looking to manage vein symptoms without surgery, conservative treatment is often the first step. This includes using compression stockings, staying active, elevating your legs, and making simple lifestyle adjustments to ease discomfort. It's a safe, non-invasive way to relieve heaviness, swelling, and early varicose vein symptoms.

Venaseal

Venaseal - Glue treatment

A gentle, glue-based treatment that seals damaged veins without heat & anesthesia. This is the latest, fastest and most painless treatment for varicose veins. For those seeking a stitch-free solution to varicose veins, Venaseal uses medical-grade glue to seal the faulty vein shut. The procedure involves inserting a small catheter and delivering a tiny amount of adhesive to close the vein, allowing blood to reroute naturally. No heat, no anesthesia, and no downtime — just a quick, comfortable treatment with excellent cosmetic and clinical outcomes.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Minor surgical procedure to remove bulging veins through tiny incisions. It is safe, scar-free, and done under local anesthesia. When bulging surface veins need to be removed, ambulatory phlebectomy offers a simple, walk-in solution. It’s ideal for prominent varicose veins and offers quick recovery with excellent cosmetic results.

Clear answers to your most common varicose vein related questions

These are those swollen and twisted veins that can sometimes appear on your legs. They happen when the blood vessels that carry blood back to your heart don't work as well as they should. This can make the blood pool up and the veins become bigger and visible through your skin. They might look blue or purple and could cause discomfort or pain for some people. If you're worried about them, it's a good idea to consult us.

This disease happens when as a result of improper functioning of your veins.

Varicose veins can happen when the tiny valves inside your veins don't work properly. These valves usually help push blood back up to your heart. But if they get weak or damaged, the blood can flow backward and gather in your veins. This can make them swell and show up as those bulging veins on your legs.

Things like standing or sitting for long periods, family history, and getting older can make varicose veins more likely.

More than 80% of the times, most common cause of varicose veins is genetics and hereditary cause.

  • Swollen, twisted veins that look like ropes under the skin.

  • Dilated veins might appear blue or purple.

  • Heaviness or aching in the legs, especially after standing or sitting for a while.

  • Itching or a burning sensation around the affected veins.

  • Ulcers on your legs, which may take long time to heal (Non healing ulcers)

  • Dry and itchy skin

  • Skin discolouration from brown to dark brown to black.

  • A detailed clinical history and examination

  • Ultrasound doppler scan

  • CT Venography or MR Venography may be required in few situations to rule out any underlying disease which may be causing the varicose veins.

These can develop in several stages, each with its own characteristics:
  1. Normal Veins: Veins appear normal, with smooth walls and regular blood flow. No swelling or distortion is visible.

  2. Early Symptoms: Veins start to slightly enlarge and twist. Some individuals might feel mild discomfort, itching, or heaviness.

  3. Visible Varicose Veins: Veins become visibly enlarged, swollen, and twisted. They may appear blue or purple, and could protrude from the skin's surface. Discomfort and achiness may increase.

  4. Skin Changes: Skin around the affected veins might become discoloured, dry, and itchy. Other skin conditions like eczema might develop. The area could be more sensitive to touch.

  5. Swelling and Ulcers: Swelling becomes more noticeable, leading to the formation of leg ulcers in severe cases. These ulcers may be painful, slow to heal, and prone to infection.

  6. Complications: In advanced stages, complications like bleeding from varicose veins, inflammation, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) could occur. Severe pain and mobility issues might arise.

Varicose veins can sometimes lead to complications, which might include:

  1. Bleeding: If a varicose vein becomes very swollen and close to the skin's surface, it could break open and cause bleeding.

  2. Inflammation: The skin around varicose veins can become inflamed, causing pain, redness, and warmth in the affected area.

  3. Blood Clots: In some cases, blood clots might form in the varicose veins, leading to a condition called thrombophlebitis. This could be painful and might require medical attention.

  4. Skin Changes: Over time, the skin around varicose veins may become discolored, dry, and prone to developing ulcers.

  5. Ulcers: Severe swelling and skin changes can lead to the formation of ulcers on the legs, which are open sores that can be difficult to heal.

  6. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Although rare, varicose veins could increase the risk of developing blood clots in the deeper veins, a condition known as DVT. This is a serious condition and requires immediate appropriate treatment.

It's important to monitor your varicose veins and seek medical advice if you notice any of these complications or if you have concerns about their progression.

Several treatment options are available to manage varicose veins, depending on their severity and your individual situation:

1. Lifestyle Changes:

- Exercise: Regular physical activity can improve blood circulation and muscle tone, reducing the risk of varicose veins.

- Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy weight can ease pressure on veins and lower the chances of developing new varicose veins.

2. Compression Stockings:

- Compression stockings: These specially designed stockings help improve blood flow by applying gentle pressure to the legs, reducing swelling and discomfort.

3. Minimally Invasive Procedures:

- Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT/EVLA): A procedure that uses heat or laser energy to seal off problematic veins, redirecting blood flow to healthier veins.

- Sclerotherapy: Injection of a solution into the veins, causing them to collapse and gradually disappear.

- Radiofrequency Ablation: Similar to endovenous laser ablation, but this uses radiofrequency energy instead of laser energy to close the damaged veins.

- Glue Treatment: This is the latest of all the treatments, no heat is required. A special medical liquid glue is used to seal and close the damaged vein instantly.

4. Surgical Options:

- Vein Stripping: An open surgical procedure where the affected vein is removed through multiple small incisions on the leg. This is one of the first methods to treat and oldest type of treatment.

- Ambulatory Phlebectomy: Surgically removing smaller varicose veins through tiny incisions. Currently sclerotherapy has replaced phlebectomy.

The choice of treatment depends on factors like the stage, size and location of the varicose veins and your medical history.
